Morgan Ranney is an Ontario-based oil painter whose work explores Canadian wildlife through stillness, atmosphere, and quiet presence. Her practice is rooted in realism, while intentionally removing narrative and environment to focus on form, breath, and gaze.

Her current body of work, Breath of the North, presents animals not in motion or spectacle, but in moments of pause. Set against dark, minimal grounds, each painting functions as a portrait rather than a scene, inviting sustained attention and calm observation. Ranney’s restrained palettes and softened edges create a sense of suspended time, allowing the animal to exist as an individual presence rather than a symbol.

Deeply informed by Northern Ontario and the Georgian Bay region, her work reflects a respect for place and for the quiet weight of the natural world. Through oil painting, Ranney explores how stillness can hold meaning — offering space for reflection, intimacy, and connection.

Morgan Ranney holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Nipissing University and maintains an independent studio practice in Wasaga Beach, Ontario.
